Usage Directions
Taking your medication consistently and correctly is vital to achieving optimal hair density and stability.
- Check Your Prescribed Dosage: 1.25mg or 2.5mg.
Verify the strength indicated on your box. Always take the exact dosage prescribed by your Terra Medical doctor. Do not alter your dose without explicit clinical guidance.
- Establish a Daily Routine: Once daily, consistent timing.
Take your tablet once a day at roughly the same time. Many patients prefer taking it in the evening before bed to minimize potential daytime lightheadedness or drowsiness.
- Administration with or without Food: With a glass of water.
Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. It can be taken on an empty stomach or with a meal, as food does not impact how the medication is absorbed.
- What to Do If You Miss a Dose: Do not double dose.
If you miss a day, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose entirely. Never take two doses at once to make up for a skipped one.
Caution & Safety Instructions
Oral minoxidil is highly effective because it works systemically (from the inside out), but its vascular effects mean certain baseline safety guidelines must be followed.
The Temporary “Shedding” Phase
Important Note: Do not panic if you notice an increase in hair shedding during the first 2 to 6 weeks of starting treatment. This is normal. Minoxidil kickstarts your hair follicles, pushing resting hairs out to make room for new, thicker, and stronger growth.
Potential Side Effects & What to Monitor
While low-dose oral minoxidil is generally very well tolerated, you should be aware of how your body reacts:
Fluid Retention: Minor swelling in the ankles, feet, or lower legs can occasionally occur.
Hypertrichosis:Increased growth of fine body hair (facial, arms, or torso) may occur. This is a sign the medication is working systemically and can be managed or adjusted during your review.
Postural Hypotension: You might feel slightly dizzy or lightheaded when standing up quickly. Combat this by transitioning slowly from sitting or lying down to a standing position.
When to Seek Immediate Medical Attention
Discontinue the medication immediately and contact the clinic or visit an emergency department if you experience any of the following:
Chest pain, severe palpitations, or a racing heartbeat
Sudden, unexplained, or rapid weight gain (greater than 1.5kg in a single week) accompanied by severe swelling
Shortness of breath, especially when lying down flat
Severe dizziness, fainting spells, or sudden blurring of vision
